Leather armchairs designed by the duo Mazairac & boonzaaijer and produced in the 1980s by Castelijn, the Netherlands.
Modern 1980s armchairs with black leather cushions, beech armrests, slender metal legs with wooden feet and black leather panels.
The design of the iconic armchairs, “FB chair”, is based on a saddle leather carrying case with wooden handles, sleek on the outside, soft on the inside. Together with Bakker’s strip chair and Spierenburg’s DC chair, the design is an important design that shaped the eighties. Good vintage condition. The leather seats have a lived appearance (some crackle on the front). The back panel of one of the armchairs has a small curve on the side of the legs. Two pieces are missing on one of the wooden leg caps.
Vintage leather easy chair, model 103, designed by Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) and produced by A/S Mikael Laursen, Denmark 1960s.
Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) trained as a carpenter and later studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. He first worked for the Danish cabinetmaker Jacob Kjær and the architects Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard until 1954, when he opened his studio on the outskirts of Aarhus. Here he designed exceptionally simple and elegant seating furniture with great functionality, which are now considered classics of Danish furniture design. The style of his work ranges from the classicism of Kaare Klint to the soft organic craftsmanship of Arne Jacobsen.
